Updated over a week ago

Matium Core is an all-in-one material management platform, allowing you efficiently manage all aspects of your business from customer relationships to procurement to logistics.

Before you dive in, take a minute to familiarize yourself with the core concepts in Matium. Then follow these steps to start building up your business on Matium!

1. Add your team

Invite as many people as you want from your company to join you on Matium.

Simply click on Administration in the left sidebar, then the Add User button. The new user will receive a welcome email with instructions on how to verify their email, set their password and join you on Matium.

Then as you create new items in Matium, you'll be able to assign team members as representative(s).

2. Create Materials

Materials are foundational to your business so your first step in Matium is to create a material for each standard material you routinely buy, sell or trade. This allows Matium to provide unique insights into pricing, order history and material-specific analytics.

Create a new material by selecting Material from the Create New (+) drop-down in the upper right corner. Select the type of material along with grade, form and color. Add any and all known specifications for the material found under Typical and Additional Properties.

All of your standard materials will be found under Materials in the left navigation pane.

3. Create Companies

Next up is creating a company in Matium for each business you buy from, sell to or utilize for services such as shipping or warehousing.

Create a new company by selecting Company from the Create New (+) drop-down. Fill out as much information as possible including locations, contacts, and materials and services they provide.

Alternatively, you can also browse the Matium Directory and as you find companies you do business with, simply click the Import to Core button.

All companies that have been manually created or imported from the directory will be found under Companies in the left navigation pane.

4. Track Opportunities

Opportunities in Matium are made up of haves and needs. Haves represent your market supply - they are material lots that you or another company would like to sell. Needs represent your market demand - they describe materials that you or another company would like to buy. By tracking both haves and needs, Matium will help you find your best trade opportunities.

Create Haves and Inventory

Haves in Matium are material lots owned by other companies. Inventory is a have that is owned by your company. Both haves and inventory make up your market supply in Matium.

Create a new have by selecting either Have or Inventory from the Create New (+) drop-down. Identify the material by selecting one of the standard materials created earlier, or create a new material. Specify the company that owns the lot, the location, and as much additional information as possible including packaging, weight, price, etc.

Create Needs

Next, create a new need by selecting Need from the Create New (+) drop-down. Select the company that has the need, required location, and type of material. Select all acceptable material specifications including grade, form, color, etc. Leave a field empty if there are no specific preferences.

For now, try creating a need with similar specifications to the have created earlier.

Identify Matches

Matches are automatically generated in Matium and provide a match rating between haves and needs to help you find your best trade opportunities.

All matches will be found under Opportunities and then Matches in the left navigation pane. You will also receive a notification when a new match is found for one of your haves or needs!

Each match will show an overall rating along with individual ratings based on location, price and material specifications, allowing you to rank all of your open opportunities on what matters most to you - distance between pickup and delivery locations, profit margin, or how close the material specifications of the have match the material parameters of the need.

5. Create Orders

If you were able to generate a match between your have and need, go ahead and click on the match card to view the details. From here, you can click Create Order to create a new order fulfilling the have and need.

Otherwise, locate the have or inventory item created earlier. Haves will be located under Opportunities in the left navigation pane. Inventory will be located under Operations.

Click on the have to view the details. From here, you can click on Create Order if a deal is identified outside of Matium.

Confirm the supplier, receiver, source and destination locations, shipping terms along with the order items with weight, sale price and packaging for each.

Once an order is created, the remaining weight of the have and/or need associated with the order will be automatically updated to reflect how much of the original material lot is still available. In this way, Matium will be managing your market for you and closing out haves and needs once they are fulfilled.

Generating Purchase Orders

Once a match is made or an order is created, you can generate a PO with the click of a button. Simply click the Purchase Order button when viewing a have or an order, and then click Generate.

There's a whole lot more to explore in Matium Core, including tracking shipments, generating invoices, BOLs (including blind) and packing lists, and managing the financials of your business. Reach out with any questions!
